This article is an attempt by the author to share his thoughts regarding Space-Time and to inspire further individual study. In no way does he consider them to be uniquely true and complete. The whole issue is as big as the universe itself and certainly a few words cannot and should not replace anyone's experiential truth. Philosophical, scientific, mythological and esoteric interpretations will be presented, which, when combined, can lead us to a fuller understanding of Space-Time and its nature. Clearly, meditation on this concept can bear valuable fruit for the prudent seeker of Truth.

Let's start our search with the scientific perspective. To examine what modern physics tells us about Space-Time, we will need to define what geometry is. Geometry describes a series of properties of a space where forms, events and shapes develop and this regardless of the number of dimensions of this space. When we refer to geometric shapes, we take for granted the existence of a space in which they develop and whose properties they obey.

For the world of our 5 senses, therefore, space is the necessary no-thing in which the geometric shapes float, which have no perceptible, but only an ideal substance.

Each space is characterized by the number of its dimensions. Dimension is not something metaphysical and outside the supervision of science. The concept of dimension is identified with the concept of the degree of freedom within a space with given properties (Geometry). Each dimension must be perpendicular to all the others.

The interesting fact is that human physiology can graphically and noticeably record only three dimensions. In other words, it cannot graphically engrave, and therefore understand, a fourth direction which is perpendicular to each of the three previous dimensions-directions. In other words, the reality of the 4th dimension, and therefore of the four-dimensional forms, is beyond the reach of the human senses and can only be described through mathematical equations.

In mathematics, all dimensions are equivalent and similar. Therefore, if for some reason we have to measure them, the measuring unit we are using is the same. This means that the fourth dimension, such as the fifth or third are measured with the same unit.

If for some reason we measure some dimensions with one unit e.g. cm and another with another unit e.g. sec, this means that something of the following is happening:

1.               The two units (cm and sec) are similar units and we don't understand it.

2.               The event that we measure with the different unit of measurement (e.g. sec) has nothing to do with the concept of dimension, but measures a secondary event that arises from the concept of dimension.

What happens from the two? Both.

When we study the Universe in its entirety, the concept of cm is identified with the concept of sec. As an example, we mention the concept of the radius of the Universe. While we have the impression that it is measured in units of length, the solution of the equation that gives the radius of the Universe gives us units of time (light years). This means that for the macrocosm of the Universe the concept of cm coincides with the concept of sec.

However, in the case of our very close universe, for example on Earth and in its vicinity, the second does not express the 4th dimension, but a derived quantity (we will see this later). For this reason, the concept of cm seems different from the concept of sec.

The fourth dimension, due to our biology, cannot be perceived directly, but only indirectly, through its secondary properties. Because of this fact we have the illusion that the fourth dimension is something different from the other three and therefore we measure it with another measure, the second of an hour.

To understand this paradox, let's refer to the example of quadruplets. If we have quadruple siblings completely similar and we see the 3 directly on the face while the fourth through a distorting mirror, we have the illusion that this one differs in appearance from the other three, for which we perceive that they are completely similar. The same thing happens with all four dimensions.

The concept of curvature

Let's imagine a one-dimensional space, the straight line. The space of the one dimension curves, that is, bends, in some areas of it in the direction of the second dimension, the width. Then, the space of the two dimensions (plane) curves towards the dimension height. Then we have the creation of three-dimensional space.

ree

Finally, when we speak of the curvature of the three-dimensional universal space, which our senses can perceive, we simply mean a curvature of it towards the fourth dimension, which, however, is not perceived by the human senses.

But here comes the seemingly paradox of Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity –  "Sensible matter is nothing but the curvature of the main component of the world of mathematics, three-dimensional Space. However, because, as we mentioned, space is a sensible nothingness, matter is the curvature of this nothingness.

Thus, when the Space of the three dimensions curves towards the 4th dimension, between a minimum and a maximum limit, then our senses perceive this curvature as a density of matter. In short, sensible matter is nothing more than a construct of our brain. A created image of another imperceptible reality."

ree

We therefore understand that the birth and death of a human body is, according to Physics, the fluctuation of the curvature of three-dimensional Space towards a fourth dimension. The length of the fourth dimension and the consequent appearance of Matter-Form we call Time or Lifetime.

The change in this curvature, in the case of the material substance of man, is practically translated as Development and Deterioration (life cycle). Human biology cannot directly perceive the 4th dimension and its changes, i.e. the curvature of Space. But he can perceive an equivalent event produced by curvature, the growth and deterioration of Matter-Form.

As humanity we need a solid measure in order to measure the average lifespan of an event. So, we measure how many times the Earth will rotate around its axis (day and night) or around the Sun (year) during the average life of an event.

ree

The result of this measurement we named it "Time"(in Greek Chronos), after the name of the god Saturn(in Greek Kronos), who, according to legend, was responsible for cessing the life (death) of a biological system. We divided Time into months, days, hours, minutes and seconds, with the basic minimum unit being the duration of the second (sec).

ree

After all the above, we can understand that humanly measured Time does not measure the 4th dimension and its changes, but a derived quantity, the lifespan of a material event.

In other words, it measures the duration during which the local curvature of space has such values that human biology can perceive them as matter. Time measures the duration of human life and not the 4th dimension, of which it is a secondary phenomenon.

It is obvious, therefore, that Space and Time are identical in Physics and probably give us a good description of the etheric world from which the material world is built.

But let's move on to the inner view of Space-Time.

In the Greek language, the word Time(Chronos) is almost equivalent to the word Saturn(Kronos), which is the name of the well-known planet with the rings and esoterically it is one of the 4 Masters of Karma. So, we could say for the sake of brevity Time = Saturn = Karma.

Saturn is a sacred 3rd Ray planet and we know that esoterically the 3rd Ray is also related to Space - Time and Mind. In many esoteric teachings, such as the Cypriot mystic Stylianos Atteslis, Space and Mind are considered the same thing. In fact, Atteslis constantly repeated in his books and lectures to his students that Mind-Space is Divine in its origin but not in its nature. And this is because Mind is an instrument of God, through which He structured the various worlds, but He was not Godhead. God is Transcendental, but Creation also takes place within Him.

ree

Therefore, the previous equality can also be rendered as: Time = Space = Mind = Saturn = Karma

In mythology we will find Saturn as the greatest Titan, son of Uranus and Gaia. Chronos took power from his father, killing and scattering his pieces everywhere, after first cutting off his genitals.  He then ruled the world in a ruthless way and by eating his own children, fearing that they would take away his power. Something which eventually happened from Zeus and since then he has been the Ruler of the Worlds.

This myth is of great interest and I will try to give it an esoteric interpretation. In the beginning everything was in an undifferentiated state and Spirit (Uranus) and Matter (Gaia) were not related to each other. We are still in the Pre-Creation phase. But when they decide to relate to each other, the result and their first birth is Saturn (space-time). However, the nature of Saturn's space-time, which is closely related to the 3rd Ray/Aspect, is its duality and need for creation. Being the Son of the undifferentiated and of the Uniqueness - Unity (Uranus), but having come out of this state, he can only live within the state of his own Being, which is duality. Therefore, his birth automatically means the death of his father Uranus - Unity. But from his dead father he keeps the ability to create (genitals) and this is what he constantly does in a desperate attempt to repeat the Great Creation of his Father. But he fails miserably because now he creates within duality and therefore every creation of his is stillborn and subject to Time. Hence Saturn/ Time  eats its children.

The Form, however, is nothing more than the arrangement of the undifferentiated Matter (Gaia) activated by the Father-Uranus in specific formations. But how does this happen? Perhaps this will be answered later.

ree

The History of Saturn (3rd Aspect) that eats his children, i.e. the forms created by it, and of Jupiter (2nd Aspect) that ultimately prevails, may also be the representation of the goal of this 2nd Solar System with the Consciousness/Love-Wisdom aspect evolving and ultimately governing, instead of the form/active intelligence aspect.

ree

H.P. Blavatsky tells us that Space is a huge Entity within which everything is created. Stylianos Atteslis agrees with this, who goes a step further and says that Space is one expression of the Cosmic Mind (mentioning that there are 4 others), through which God creates the Universes.

People tend to think of space in material terms, e.g. a room that has length, width and height, but this is not at all the case according to science and esoteric teachings. But before we proceed to a further analysis of the nature of Space-Time, I would like you to follow me on a short journey:

"Let us imagine ourselves without form, without any body standing in infinity. We stand as consciousness in  Space without beginning and end, where there is no form, there is nothing at all. Is there any feeling? Probably not. Is there movement? Probably not. Could I tell if I'm moving without a reference point? Probably not. Can there be any change or development within this condition? Probably not.

ree

Now, let's visualize that a white light appears somewhere in space. This light stands there and I stand in the place I am. I observe it without the ability to think (since I don't have a mental body as we said before). Nothing changes. Can I tell if time has passed since nothing has changed? Probably not. So there is still no Time.

Let us now visualize that we are beginning to move in the direction of the light. Now we will begin to notice that the light gets bigger or brighter as we approach it. Therefore, we have a change compared to the previous state. Our movement towards the light was the cause of the change of state and the beginning of the sense of Time, for now we can define Before as the state where I saw the light from a distance, while the After as the state where the light began to become more intense. Consequently, movement in Space created Time."

Thus, we understand that Space and Time are inextricably linked through Movement. Now, if we were to add to our example the possibility of thinking (even without a mental body), we would see that we do not need an external object (light) to move towards, in order to feel and define Time. This would be defined as the period of thoughts. As long as  thought exists, Time flows. The movement of the Mind produces Time. When thought stops, the sense of Time ceases.

“There is no Spoon! It is not the spoon that bents, it is only yourself”. Matrix

Let us now examine another example of the inextricable relationship between Space and Time. We have been told that one of the symbols of the 3rd Ray, which is associated with Space-Time, is the Net. The scientific theory of Superstrings tells us of a Universe that is created by identical one-dimensional vibrating strings and which create a 10-dimensional world. Let's imagine for a moment our entire universe visible and invisible as a vast network of luminous threads. Space-Time itself is such a network. And let's leave the concept of Space aside for a moment and focus on Time, which so confuses the limited mind in our brain. Time, therefore, is a vast network that permeates and is subject to everything. It exists everywhere, it is unified and inseparable. Let us visualize that we are standing at a point in this network.

ree

All I can perceive is Time around me and within me. I can perceive time as far as I am extended. No further! So, I have a limited perception of Time, since Time is the whole network. As long as I live confined to that part of the network, I will make complex theories about Time, but I will not know it. But if I assume that I acquire the ability to spread and contain more and more of the network, the more points of Time will exist for me experientially within me. I will see them as one, just as I see the billions of cells in my body as one. And if I spread so much that I perceive and contain the entire network, then a set of infinite points/moments/experiences will become a single reality for me. Perhaps this state of the Eternal Now described by the Initiates of our Race is the expansion of consciousness to such limits that there is omnipresence and therefore everything happens at the same time for them. Past, present and future are nothing more than topological terms that have no value anymore.

We are told that the obstacle to experiencing this Eternal Now is attachment to form. The Law of Karma imposes reincarnation and the journey through the curvature of Space-Time. Could we say that the Law of Karma, for all non-initiates, is the repetition of the curvature of Mind/Space-Time and the instinctive urge to create? Does it govern the creative process in the 3 lower worlds until the White Magician learns from experience to create but remains detached from creation?

Who knows? Time will tell...
